Hilland and Fitzgerald recognized by Skyline Conference

New York, NY--- The Sage Colleges’ men’s volleyball team had a pair of players honored by the Skyline Conference on Monday evening with the announcement of the league’s weekly honors.

Sage’s duo junior Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) and sophomore Scott Fitzgerald (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury) were recognized by the league with honors as Hilland was named the league’s co-player of the week, and Fitzgerald was placed on the weekly honor roll.

Hilland led Sage to a perfect 4-0 week, helping lead the Gators to the Bard Raptor Invitational Championship, beating Bard for the first-time ever. He averaged 3.36 kills (.291 hitting pct.), 1.79 digs, and 1.21 blocks per set for the week and now has 424 career kills in just one and half seasons with the team. Overall on the season, Hilland has a team-best 194 kills and 54 total blocks.

Fitzgerald is also coming off a very strong pair effort last week. This collegiate newcomer helped Gators extend their school-record win streak to six matches, while connecting on 2.36 kills per set with a .232 attack percentage, while also averaging 1.93 digs, and 0.79 blocks per set last week. Fitzgerald leads the squad with 26 aces and has 131 kills with 99 digs.

Sage returns to action on March 4 travelling to Kean University for a Skyline Conference quad match where the Gators will face Ramapo College and Purchase College. The Gators are now 12-4 overall with a 7-2 record in Skyline Conference play.
