Gators among NCAA men's volleyball leaders

Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges’ men’s volleyball team and its members are amongst the national NCAA Division III statistical leaders with the release of the seventh statistical rankings. Sage, which stands at 17-9 on the year, is ranked nationally in six team categories, while several players rank in the national Top 50 statistically. The 2012 Gators have already surpassed the mark for most wins in a season and will participate in the program’s third straight Skyline Conference Tournament, with the league’s champion garnering an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship.

            Sage ranks 17th nationally in win percentage .654, while ranking 13th in digs per set (10.37), 27th in assists per set (10.14), 27th in blocks per set (1.89), 28th in hitting percentage (.207), and 29th in kills per set (11.01).   

            Among the 2012 team members nationally ranked are junior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) as he ranks 10th in setting assists per set (9.46). Ray checks in with a team-best setting assists as he has racked up 870 this season.  The career leader at Sage, he has 1,581 to his credit, while adding 311 kills and 495 digs.

            Junior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) ranks in two different categories. He is 16th in kills per set average (3.37), while ranking 22nd in blocks per set (0.91). He leads the team with his 310 kills and 84 total blocks. He has also added 178 digs on the year. He surpassed the 500 career kill plateau last month and now has a program-best 550 career kills. He has also connected on 145 career total blocks with 280 digs in 157 sets played as a Gator.

Sophomore outside hitter Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) is also ranked in two categories. He is 18th in kills per set (3.36), while also boasting a No. 47 ranking in hitting percentage with his .267 attack percentage.  Overall this season, Krowicki has added 302 kills with 14 aces and a team-best 179 digs in 90 sets played.

Sophomore right side Scott Fitzgerald (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury) ranks 38th in aces per set as he has a 0.36 per set average. He leads the team with his 33 aces and has added 196 kills with 178 digs, while adding 55 total blocks on the season.

            Sage will be back in action on April 14 in the 2012 Skyline Conference Championships, which will be held at Kean University (Union, NJ). Top seeded Kean will face the fourth seeded Gators at 1 p.m., while No. 2 seeded Ramapo will face No. 3 seeded New Jersey City University at 3:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners advance to the championship match at 7 p.m.
