Pellegrini and Coddington set school records at opening day of Indoor Track season

Springfield, MA – Russell Sage College men's indoor track and field team opened the new season on Saturday, competing at Springfield College. The meet saw a number of impressive efforts by the Gators as they made their debut under rookie coach Regan Grube. Among the many highlights from the day the men's programs set school records at the event.

Senior John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) picked up right where he left off a year ago for the Gators. Competing in the weight throw, he broke his own school record in his first meet of the season. He won the event with a toss of 15.99, bettering his mark from a year ago of 15.81 meters set at the 2022 Empire 8 Indoor Championship. He also was third place in the spot put with a toss of 13.54 meters.

For the Gators, rookie Chris Pellegrini (Loudonville, NY/Colonie Central) posted a time of 1:34.93 and was 11th in the race breaking the school record set a year ago. The old mark was 1:35.20 set by Chad Hicks at the same meet.

Sophomore Kaiden Simpson (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) was also in action in the weight throw and finished in 17th place with his mark of 8.72 meters. 

Freshman Noah Rivera (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) led the Gators in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.95 and was 25th. Rookie Thyon Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay School for Law) was next in 29th in 8.27, while Simpson was 31st with a performance of 8.41 in the race. Nelson also posted a time of 28.96 and was 30th in the 200 meter dash. Rivera was also eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.01 meters.

Sophomore Isaac Langer (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills) posted a leap of 4.28 meters to finish in 22nd place in the long jump.

In the men's 4 x 400 relay, RSC took home seventh place in 4:12.45 behind the efforts of Pellegrini, Langer, Nelson, and Rivera.

The RSC men's team racked up 19 points on the day and finished in seventh place in the team standings.

RSC will take to the track again next Saturday, December 10 when they visit Utica University for the Pioneer Invitational.
