Mitchell and Coddington to represent Sage at AARTFC

 

Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's men's outdoor track and field team has qualified two student-athletes for the 2022 All-Atlantic Track and Field Conference Championships at Moravian University (Bethlehem, PA) on May 18-19. Junior captain John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) and senior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) have qualified for the meet and will compete on May 19 with hopes of advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship at month's end.

Coddington, who was named the Sage Male Athlete of the Year in an individual sport, is coming off an Empire 8 Championship as he won the hammer toss becoming the program's first Empire 8 champion. He had a throw of 45.93 meters in the event. At the Empire 8 Championship, he also finished in third place in the shot put with a throw of 14.16 meters and was also fifth in the discus with his throw of 37.88 meters. 

On his 2022 outdoor track campaign, Coddington has established school records in the shot put (14.79 m), the discus (39.95m) and the hammer (46.36m). He opens his competition on Thursday competing in the hammer throw at noon and the shotput at 2:30 p.m.

Mitchell earned an invitation to compete in the high jump and is in action on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.  He penned his name to the school record in the event with a performance of 6.7 meters while in action at the Capital District Championship at RPI on April 30. While competing at the Empire 8 Championship, he finished in fifth place with a leap of 6.63 meters.
