Sage men break three school records at RPI's Capital District Championship

Troy, NY –  Russell Sage College's men's outdoor track and field squad competed on Saturday at the Capital District Championship hosted at RPI. Sage's men's team finished in eighth place and broke three school records at the meet.

Junior captain John Coddington (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) won the shot put with a throw of 14.39 meters. He also finished in fifth place in the hammer throw, once again breaking his own school record with his throw on Saturday. This week he posted a toss of 46.36 to break the mark from the previous week of 44.54 meters.  He also did the same thing with his mark of 39.95 meters as he finished in fifth in the discus. He broke his mark from two weeks ago competing at the Wiliams' Invitational.

Senior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) broke the school record in the long jump with his leap of 6.70 meters bettering the old record of 6.57 set in 2015 by Eric Denny.  He added a ninth place finish in the 100 meter run in 11.63 and was also 12th in the 200 meter run in 24.15.

Senior Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) was 16th in the 100 m (12.89) and added a 19th place finish in the long jump with his mark of 5.17 meters.

In the 3,000 meter run, junior Joe Degiorgio (Troy, NY/Troy) took home 10th place in 9:38.70, while senior Brett LaBier (Albany, NY/Colonie) added a time of 2:32.34 and picked up 19th in the 800 meter run. In the long jump,  rookie Isaac Langer (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills) finished in 21st with a jump of 4.89 meters.

Looking ahead, RSC competes on May 6-7 at the 2022 Empire 8 Championship, which will take place at Nazareth College.
