Larose named Gator of the Year in Men's Track and Field

Albany, NY—The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2016-2017 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. Sage saluted the Gator Award recipients in each sport and earning the honor in men's track and field was junior Frane Larose (Miami, FL/N. Miami Beach Senior).

Head coach Jim Bowles said of Larose, "Frane is a tireless worker in practice that not only allowed him to achieve excellent performances this spring, but he also set an example for the rest of the team to follow."

Over the course of the spring, Larose competed for the Gators in sprint events and led the team at several meets with his impressive times and marks.  At the Wesleyan University Invitational, he was 8th in the long jump with his leap of 5.47 meters and added a 10th place finish in the 100 meter dash in 12.30.  At the Hamilton College Invitational, he finished in sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 5.42 meters.  He added an 8th place showing in the 100 meter dash (12.16) as well as 11th in the 200 meter dash (24.68). He was also part of Sage's third place 4 x 100 relay team that had a time of 46.91.

He was also among the team's top performers in the first team meets of the year after a successful meet at the Mt. Holyoke Spring Fling. He was fifth in the 100 meter dash (12.39), 9th in the 200 meter dash (25.26), while adding an 8th in the triple jump with his performance of 11.68 meters. He also picked up a 12th in the long jump with his leap of 5.60 meter and also competed as a member of Sage's lineup in the 4 x 100 relay as they took home third place in 49.07. He opened his season with three second place finishes as the Gators competed at the Albany Pharmacy Invitational to open the 2017 outdoor track and field season. He picked up a second in the 100 meter dash (12.73), the 200 meter run in 26.20 and capped the night with a second place finish in the triple jump with his mark of 10.57 meters.

A two-sport student-athlete at Sage, he competed this past winter as a member of Sage's men's basketball team, which won the 2016-2017 Skyline Conference North Division regular-season title and capped the year with a runner-up showing in the Skyline Conference Tournament. Larose was a 20-game starter on the hardwood with a 5.9 ppg average, while adding 53 assists with 29 steals in 23 games played in his first year at Sage.
