Funk breaks school record in 800 meter run at Pioneer Invitatonal

Northampton, MA –The Sage men's outdoor track and field team travelled to Massachusetts to compete at the Pioneers Invitational at Smith College, a non-team scored meet.

A Sage men's team record was broken on Saturday in the 800 meter run, rookie Zachary Funk (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) was 10th in 2:09.01. He bettered the previous record he set two weeks ago, while competing at the Wesleyan Spring Invitational (2:10.00).

Sage's men's team was also led by the senior Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) as he finished in fourth in the 5,000 meter run in 17:21.21.

On the 4 x 100 relay were rookie Deion Thomas (New York, NY/Democracy Prep), rookie Malik McNeish (Bronx, NY/The Eagle Academy for Young Men), sophomore Zaheer Ahmad (Queens, NY/Academy of the Innovative Technology), and junior Anthony Williamson (Beacon, NY/Beacon).

The Gators also took fifth in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:52.92 and ninth in the 4 x 100 relay in 48.83. On the 4 x 400 relay were Williamson, Benjamin Hulett (Shaftbury, VT/Mt. Anthony Union), Ian Alejandro (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam), and Funk

In the 100 meter run, Williamson was 10th in 11.87, while Thomas was next in 34th place in 12.78. Also competing in the race for Sage were Ahmad in 39th in 13.07 and sophomore Jacob Clouse (Coeymans, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) in 51st in 16.55.

Also running in the 800 meter run was Ian Alejandro as he posted a time of 2;18.20 to take 27th place.

In the 400 meter run, Malik McNeish was 18th in 1:00.95.

In the javelin throw, rookie Benjamin Hulett picked up 19th with his throw of 29.49 meters. In the shot put, Hulett was 16th with a toss of 9.81 meters and Thomas picked up 21st with his effort of 8.91 meter.

 
Next up for the Gators is a competition on April 16 at Middlebury College in the Panther Spring Invitational.
