Denny wins first event for 2015 Gators at Pioneer Invitational to pace the Gators

Amherst, MA –The Sage College's men's outdoor track and field team was in action at the Pioneer Invitational at Smith College, a non-team scored meet.

Sophomore Eric Denny (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) became the first Gator to win an event this season as he picked up a first place finish in the men's long jump competition after his performance of 6.57 in the finals. He added a second place finish in the performance of 1.78 meter in the finals. He was also second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.78 meters.

Sage was also paced by the efforts of graduate student Anthony Crawford (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy) as he third in the 100 meter dash in 11.24, while also taking third in the 200 meter dash (23.23). Crawford also took second in the long jump behind Denny with a leap of 5.85 meters in the finals.

Junior Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished in fifth place in the 1,500 meter run in 4:39.14. 17th place in 17:49.31.

In the relays, Sage was second in the 4 x 100 relay in 46.35, while taking fourth in the 4 x 400 relay in a time of 3:47.21. Competing for the Gators in the 4 x 100 relay were Crawford, rookie Zaheer Ahmad (Queens, NY/Academy of Innovative Technology), freshman Donald Edwards (Brooklyn, NY/James Westinghouse), and Denny. The 4 x 400 relay saw Crawford, sophomore Jonathan McNeil (Bloomfield, CT/Greater Hartford Classical Magnet), Reyes-Alvarez, and Denny compete.

In the 400 meter dash, McNeil took sixth in 58.82, while in the 100 meter dash Ahmad collected 14th in 12.50, while rookie Jacob Clouse (Coeymans, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) added a 25th place finish in 14.45.

In the 200 meter dash, Edwards took 11th in 24.93, while the Gators got an eighth place finish from rookie Russell Cobane (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy of Central School District at Delhi) in the long jump (5.2 meters). In the shot put, graduate student Taylor McMillen (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) was 10th with his put of 9.44 meters, just ahead of Cobane who took 11th with a throw of 8.72 meters.

Senior Zachary Scher (Troy, NY/Troy) added 13th in the shot put with a throw of 7.86 meters and senior Ronnie Reed, Jr. (Harlem, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy II) was next in 14th with a throw of 7.21 meters.

In the javelin, McMillen was 11th with his throw of 35.36 meters, while Cobane picked up 15th with a throw of 25.03 meters.
