Sage men's track squad opens new season at Wesleyan Spring Invitational

Middletown, CT –The Sage College's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the new season on Saturday competing at the Wesleyan University Spring Invitational. Due to poor track conditions outdoors, the meet was held indoors in the non-team scored meet.

Leading the way for the Sage men's squad was sophomore Eric Denny (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) as he picked up a second place finish in the high jump with his performance of 1.86 meters. He added a fourth place showing as well in the long jump with a leap of 6.15 meters.

In the men's 4 x 200 meter relay, the Gators finished in fifth place in 1:42.67 as sophomore Nicholas Haas, Jr. (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy), graduate student Anthony Crawford (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), graduate student Taylor McMillen (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), and rookie Zaheer Ahmad (Queens, NY/Academy of Innovative Technology) combined.  Sage also picked up a ninth place showing in the 4 x 400 meter relay as they combined for a time of 4:03.30 behind the efforts of graduate student James Carroll (Troy, NY/Home Schooled), Jacob Clouse, rookie Russell Cobane (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy of Central School District at Delhi), and freshman Donald Edwards (Brooklyn, NY/James Westinghouse).

In the 100 meter dash, Ahmad picked up 41st place in 13.58 ahead of senior Ronnie Reed, Jr. (Harlem, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy II) who took 45thh in 14.40, while Clouse took 47th in 16.73.

In the 200 meter dash, sophomore Jonathan McNeil (Bloomfield, CT/Greater Hartford Classical Magnet) took 31st in 26.47 ahead of Ahmad who took 42nd in 27.12. McNeil added a 31st place showing in the 400 meter run in 1:01.92.

In the 1,500 meter run, junior Juan Reyes-Alvarez (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished in 21st place in 4:37.02.

In the long jump, Cobane added a 16th place finish with his effort of 5.44 meters, while in the shot put senior Zachary Scher (Troy, NY/Troy) took 16th with his mark of 8.92 meters. Reed, Jr. added a 31st place finish in the shot with a throw of 7.82 meters.
