Tom Fashouer joined the department as the head tennis coach in the summer of 2014. Since that time, his role and duties have changed at the College. Fashouer was named the Head Athletic Trainer in December 2018 at Sage after joining the athletic training staff as an assistant in the summer of 2017.

In addition to his role in the athletic training room, he also served as the head men’s tennis coach for six seasons as well as the head women’s tennis coach. The fall of 2020 marks his seventh years as the head women’s tennis coach as he brings a career record of 42-42 into the season.

Sage’s women’s tennis team is coming off one of the program’s most successful seasons having earned a berth in the 2019 Empire 8 Tournament and posting a 10-4 record with a 4-2 record in Empire 8 action. The 2019 team tied the program’s single-season wins mark having collected 10 wins and produced nine all-conference performers along the way.

Twice now, Fashouer’s lineup has earned 10 wins in a season as his 2017 team also captured 10 wins. Sage’s women’s tennis team has now had three 10-win seasons (2019, 2017, and 2008). This senior class on the 2019 team helped Sage collect two post-season appearances as the team earned a spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2017.

A graduate of Lock Haven University, Fashouer earned his bachelor of science degree in 1978 and earned a master’s degree the following year from The College of New Jersey.

A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the World Team Tennis (WTT) Association, Fashouer possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience with the sport and is no stranger to Sage’s athletic department and the Capital District having served as the head athletic trainer at Union College from 1982 until 1988 as well as the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from 1992 until the Spring of 2014.

The one-time owner and manager of the Albany Physical Therapy, Fashouer provided rehabilitation and contract Athletic Training services to Capital District High Schools and Colleges for over twenty years. He is a past president of the New York State Athletic Trainers Association. In addition, he is an active member of the New York State Education Department’s Professional Assistance program, assisting licensed professionals in New York State with substance abuse problems.
