SAGE FALLS TO MCLA, 7-2 IN MEN'S TENNIS ACTION

 

Troy, NY – The MCLA men's tennis team swept the doubles matches and then rode that momentum to a 7-2 victory over the Sage Gators on Thursday afternoon in Troy.  With the win, MCLA is now 3-5 on the season while Sage drops to 1-7.

MCLA won three hard fought doubles matches with Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak winning 8-4 in the top spot, besting the Gator tandem of seniors Kirsten Ackerman (Rensselaer, NY/Guilderland) and Gerard Beaudin (Delmar, NY/Home Schooled).  The duo of Taylor Krowitz and Michael Rooney were victorious 8-3 in the second match, while Jeff Mason and Tyler Russell held on for an 8-5 in the third match.

Ackerman took the point in the number one singles slot as she beat Goldsmith in the third set tie-breaker.  Ackerman is now 3-1 this season at No. 1 singles as a member of the men's team.

Wabshinak and Krowitz held serve by winning in the second and third slots.  Wabshinak won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, while Krowitz dug deep to pull off a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 win at third singles. Sage's rookie Troy Hansen (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) added a key win at No. 5 singles, beating his opponent, Jeffrey mason, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 in the three sets.

Rooney also won in three sets in the third singles match while Russell cruised to a point in the sixth slot to round out the scoring for MCLA.

Sage returns to action on Sunday, April 19 travelling to Utica College for a 1 p.m. match.
