Bronxville, NY – Sage's men's tennis team opened Skyline Conference play on Saturday facing the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence on the road and picked up a 6-3 win. Sage is now 1-1 on the year with a 1-0 mark in league play, while SLC falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league. The win marks the first career win for Sage's rookie men's tennis coach Tom Fashouer.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Sage's senior captain Gerard Beaudin (Delmar, NY/Home Schooled) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over SLC's Adam Neufeld. Beaudin teamed at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Robert Scott (Huntingdon Station, NY/Huntington) for an 8-2 win on the season. Additional winners in singles for Sage came at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. At No. 4 singles, rookie Troy Hansen (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) was a winner, topping Bowen Li, 6-3, 
6-1, while junior Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) was a 6-0, 6-0.

 

The Gators took a 3-0 lead after doubles play as they won all three matches. Senior Mark Castillo (Randolph, MA/Randolph) paired with Hansen for an 8-5 win at second doubles, while junior Khademe Osbourne (Brooklyn, NY/East New York Transit Tech) teamed with Estremara for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Gators are back in action on Sunday hosting Skyline Conference defending champions, Yeshiva University at 2 p.m. at Saratoga YMCA.
