Albany, NY—The Sage College's Men's Tennis team opened the 2013 season on Saturday hosting the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference match. The Knights collected a 9-0 win to improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the setback puts the Gators at 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the Skyline.

Debuting at No. 1 singles, sophomore Rob Hansen (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) faced the Kn'ghts' top singles player, junior Greg Jacob (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). Jacob was a 6-1, 6-1 winner and teamed at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Nate Dimmie (Middletown, NY/Middletown) to best Sage's Hansen and junior Mike Hilton (Waterford, NY/Waterford Halfmoon), 8-2.

The Gator tandem of brothers, Sean and Cory Alvarado (Shokan, NY/Onteora) played at No. 2 doubles for Sage, but fell to MSMC's junior Stat Willand (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and freshman Mike Balokoz (Milford, CT/West Haven-Notre Dame), 8-1. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Sean Alvarado fell to Balokoz, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Cory Alvarado pushed sophomore Conor Merryman (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro Central) to the tightest match of the afternoon, but dropped the No. 6 singles bout, 6-1, 6-3.

The Gators return to action on March 24 hosting Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference match at 1 p.m. at the tennis courts at Albany Academy for Boys.

MSMC's is also back in action on March 24 hosting Rutgers University-Newark at 1 p.m. in a  non-conference match.
