Gators Hold Off Soaring Eagles

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College moved to 2-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with this afternoon's 1-0 victory at Elmira.

Junior forward El Hadji Iba Sy (Bronx, NY/Emma Lazarus) put the Gators (4-2-1/2-0-0 E8), now winners of three-straight, ahead in the 66th minute with an unassisted goal. He leads the team with six goals and 12 points on the fall.

Following the RSC goal, the Soaring Eagles (5-2-1/0-1-0 E8) pushed hard for an equalizer, taking six of their nine second-half shots in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Junior goalie Tyler Brennan (Albany, NY/Shaker) (Win, 3-2-0) was up to the challenge. The reigning E8 Defensive Player of the Week finished with eight saves, a season-high, en route to his second consecutive shutout.

Senior goalie Zachary Raffino (Loss, 4-2-1) made five saves for Elmira. 

RSC is back on the pitch on Tuesday at Fitchburg State. The non-conference action is set to begin at 6:00 pm. 

Notes: Brennan was named the E8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday…He registered seven saves as RSC opened Conference play with a 2-0 home win vs. Houghton on Saturday, September 17…The fall marks the first season with Amir Pasic at the helm of the program...He picked up his first career win on Thursday, September 1 at Castleton...17 players returned to the team...Junior defender/midfielder Ian Maguire (Dunstable, MA/Groton Dunstable Regional) and fifth-year senior midfielder/forward Christian Vålstuen (Lillestrom, Norway/Lambertseter Athletic) were voted co-captains.
