Men's soccer posts 2-0 E8 win over Houghton

Albany, N.Y. – Russell Sage College men's soccer team hosted the Highlanders of Houghton University on Saturday night in the two teams' Empire 8 opener. The Gators posted a 2-0 win to improve to 2-2-1 overall and get an early Empire 8 conference lead with a 1-0 record. Houghton drops to 1-6 and0-1 in the league.

RSC's junior forward El Hadji Iba Sy (Bronx, NY/Emma Lazarus) scored both of the team's goals in the match. His first coming at the 24:36 mark on a pass from senior Christian Valstuen (Lillestrom, Norway). His second goal was at 84:37 on a pass from on a feed from rookie Braxton Harper (Sharpsburg, GA/The Heritage School). He now leads the Gators with his three goals this fall on six points.

Sage junior keeper Tyler Brennan (Albany,NY/Shaker) earned the shutout win to move to 2-2 on the year after he made seven saves in goal. Houghton's Sam Carpenter made four saves in the loss.

The Gators are back in action on September 20 hosting SUNY-Canton in a 5 p.m. non-conference match-up.
