Late Goal Puts Gators Into a Draw

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Matthew Allen scored with 1:15 left to allow visiting Westfield State to tie Russell Sage College 1-1 tonight at the ACP Athletic Complex.

Both goals under the "Friday Night Lights" came within the final 6:27.

Midfielder/forward Christian Vålstuen (Lillestrom, Norway/Lambertseter Athletic), a graduate student, opened the scoring when he deposited a roller through the box into the net. Freshman forward/midfielder Andrew Kraszewski (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) registered the assist.

The Owls (0-2-2) tied it with 75 seconds left on the goal by Allen. Freshman midfielder Carter Daughdrill assisted on the equalizer.

The tightly-played home opener saw both teams record 11 shots, with Westfield State holding a slim 8-7 advantage on corner kicks.

Looking ahead, the Gators (1-1-1) hit the road on Tuesday to face Plattsburgh State. The non-conference contest is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
