Pierre and Vaalstuen connect for goal as Gators Triumph, 1-0 over AMC

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College's men's soccer hosted Albertus Magnus on Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup. Tied at 0-0 at the break, RSC's senior forward Jeaneste Pierre (Newburgh, NY/Newburg Free Academy) scored the game-winning goal to help the Gators to their first win of the season. RSC is now 1-1-1 on the year, while AMC drops to 1-1.

Pierre tallied his second goal of the year as senior midfielder Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway/Lambertseter Academy) and sophomore defender Ian Maguire (Dunstable, MA/Groton Dunstable Regional) fed the ball in at the 74:05 mark. The Gators held a commanding edge in shots having dominated the game with 19 shots to 7, while also a 9-1 edge on corner kicks as well.

Pierre now has 34 career points as a Gator, putting him seven on the career point list, while boasting 15 career goals as he moved into a tie for the No. 6 spot on Tuesday. He is now tied with Jose Miranda (2011-2014).

Sophomore keeper Tyler Brennan (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) earned the win and his second straight shutout performance in goal. He stands at 1-1-1 and made one save on 7 shots.

AMC's junior keeper Garfield Robinson (West Haven, CT/West Haven) took the loss (1-1) and made six saves on 19 shots with one goal allowed.

RSC Head Coach Matt Esposito noted of the victory, "I am very proud of the group for earning their first win of the season. They kept our strong defensive foundation and built on their ability to create scoring chances. It took a bit of knocking on the door until one found its' way in but their resilient attitude persevered."

Looking ahead, both teams are in non-conference action on Saturday...RSC hits the road for the first time this fall playing at Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 pm...Meanwhile, Albertus Magnus hosts Dean at 3:30 pm.
