Men's soccer tallies 2-0 win at SUNY-Canton for 2nd straight victory

Canton, NY—The Gators of Russell Sage College traveled to SUNY-Canton on Tuesday evening for a non-conference match-up. RSC won their second straight contest as they posted a 2-0 win. RSC is now 3-1-1, while the Kangaroos drop to 1-3.

The first goal of the night was an own goal as the SUNY-Canton keeper misplayed the ball and the Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the play at 31:40.  Junior midfielder Allan Gonzalez (Lompoc, CA/Lompoc) scored his first goal of the season on a pass from senior midfielder Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway/Lambertseter Athletic) at 38:58. Gonzalez was given space from about 25 yards out and unleashed shot into top left for the tally.  The goal was the first of his career for Gonzalez, while Vaalstuen now has who now has 14 career points with four assists and five goals.

RSC held the 11-8 advantage on the shots and the Gators posted their third shutout on the year as sophomore keepers  Tyler Brennan (Albany, NY/Shaker) and Nolan Murphy (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) shared time in the net.  Brennan stands at 3-1-1 in net after making two saves in his 61 plus minutes of work. Murphy also made two saves for the Gators in his time in net.

RSC is back in action on September 18 hosting Elmira College in the team's 2021 Empire 8 opener at ACP on Saturday at 1 p.m.
