Gators Cruise Past Wells 3-0

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College ran its unbeaten streak to three by defeating visiting Wells 3-0 tonight at the ACP Athletic Complex.

The Gators, now 2-0-1 across their last three matches, controlled play throughout the non-conference victory. RSC (6-5-2) outshot Wells 25-2, and held a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Senior midfielder/forward Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway/Lambertseter Athletic) (above) led the Gators with two goals. The co-captain got Sage on the board in the third minute, kicking home a header from sophomore forward Evan Austin (Latham, NY/Shaker). In the 33rd minute, Vaalstuen doubled the RSC lead by depositing the rebound off of his blocked shot attempt into the net.  

Senior forward Jeaneste Pierre (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tacked on an insurance tally with less than five minutes remaining. He now sits fifth in program annals with 18 career goals.

Sophomore goalie Tyler Brennan (Albany, NY/Shaker) (Win - 4-2-1) and freshman goalie Ethan Ellis (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) combined to make two saves

For the Express, senior goalkie Colton Jaquith (Niskayuna, NY/LaSalle Institute) (Loss) stopped eight RSC shots.

Looking ahead, both squads are in action on Saturday afternoon. The Gators play at Keuka at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, Wells (1-12-0) hosts Lancaster Bible at 1:00 pm.


Notes: Sage has not allowed a goal for the last 295:25...Junior goalie Nolan Murphy (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) was named the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday...He did not allow a goal across two matches last week...The junior totaled 12 saves during the 200:00 minutes, including seven in Saturday's 1-0 E8 victory vs. St. John Fisher.
