Men's Soccer drops E8 contest to Alfred, 1-0

Alfred, NY—The Gators of Russell Sage College traveled to Alfred University for an Empire contest on Saturday. The Saxons slipped past the RSC 1-0 for the key league victory. Alfred is now 2-5-2 and 1-1 in the Empire 8, while the loss puts the Gators at 3-4-1 and 0-2 in the conference.

Alfred help a 1-0 lead at the intermission as Mason Sanborn struck for the lone goal of the match at 26:30.

The Gators held a commanding lead on the shots, 22-11 over the Saxons as well as a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. In the final two minutes, junior Allan Gonzalez (Lompoc, CA/Lompoc) had a cornerkick at the 88:47 mark which just missed the target. Senior midfielder Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway) headed the ball only to have Alfred's keeper Daniel Koenig make the save and keep the Gators from tying the score.

In goal RSC's sophomore Tyler Brennan (Albany, NY/Shaker) made two saves in the loss, dropping to 3-2-1.  Alfred's Steven Morrow picked up the win (1-2) after making seven saves in 55:26 and shared in the shutout win with Koenig. Koenig made five saves in his 34:34 in net.

RSC is back in action on September 28 hosting Cazenovia College in a 6 p.m. non-conference match at ACP Stadium.
