Holquin strikes with first career goal as he lifts Sage past Alfred, 2-1

SAGE MEN'S SOCCER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT CONTEST THIS WEEK: THIS TIME THE GATORS BEAT ALFRED, 2-1 IN E8 PLAY

Alfred, NY — Sage's sophomore midfielder Rafael-Enrique Holquin (Gansevoort, NY/CBA) scored his first goal as a Gator to lift Sage past Alfred University on Saturday afternoon in a key Empire 8 match on the road. Holquin scored the game-winner at the 87:45 mark to break a 1-1 tie and give Sage a 5-4 mark on the year and a 1-1 record in the league. Alfred drops to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The two-teams played a scoreless first half before Sage jumped out to a 1-0 lead as sophomore back Giddel Alvarado (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) scored off a free kick on the right side of the box at the 50:19 mark earning his second goal of the season. Alfred tied the score almost 11 minutes later as Justin Eaton scored at 62:48 off a free kick as well.

Found Holquin and the two gave Sage the 2-1 lead with only 2:15 left in regulation. The Gators would hold on and earn the E8 win as Sage's sophomore keeper Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) finished the day with two saves and is now 5-4 in net.

Sage which played earlier this season in Alfred University's Tip-Off Classis, is now 3-0 this fall at the Saxon Stadium after besting both Cazenovia and and Baruch there earlier this month.

Sage returns to action on October 2 visiting the Nutmeg State as they face Albertus Magnus College in a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
