Alvarado sends Gators to 2-1 win over Baruch as Esposito earns 1st career win

Alfred, NY — The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team competed against Baruch College on Saturday evening at the Alfred University Tournament. Sage posted the 2-1 and delivered the first career win for the Gator rookie head coach Matt Esposito. Sage is now 1-1 on the young season.

               Junior forward Griffin Goodemote (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) gave the Gators a 1-0 lead with his first goal on the year on a feed from sophomore midfielder Giddel Alvarado (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) at the 11:42 mark. Baruch tied the game with a goal at 30:58 from Michael Grald.

               Tied at 1-1 at the break, Alvarado broke the tie and converted the game-winning goal at the 58:02 mark to send the Gators into the winner's circle. The goal was the first career score and game-winner for Alvarado who finished with three points on the night.

               In goal for the Gators, sophomore Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) made five saves in in goal. Baruch's Kellan Sela had four saves with two goals allowed in his time in the net.

               Sage is back in action on September 8 at Alfred University in the Saxons' opening season tournament as Sage takes on Cazenovia at 2:30 p.m.
