Men's soccer drops opener in double OT to M'Ville, 2-1

Purchase, NY — The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team opened their 2019 season on the road at Manhattanville College. Sage pushed the Valients to double overtime as rookie head coach Matt Esposito led the Gators on the pitch for the first time. Manhattanville got the game winner at the 107:41 mark with just 2:19 left before the match would end in a 1-1 tie. Manhattaville's Pablo Bravo Olle scored the game-winner on a feed from Nico Villazon as he converted the cross into middle shot low to the bottom right corner to propel Manhattanville to a 1-0 start on the season. Sage falls to 0-1 on the year.

Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead at the intermission as Fabori Conde scored on a pass from Xavier Cruzata at 37:59. Down 1-0 at the half, Sage's sophomore midfielder Kevin Winglowsky (Schodack, NY/Ichabod Crane) tied the game with a cross from the left side to beat the defender and give Sage new life.

Headed to overtime all tied at 1-1, Sage had several scoring chances in the overtime including a series of penalty corners including three in the second overtime. Winglowsky had a shot blocked as well that would have been the game-winner with his blast at 105:11 that was blocked.

In goal for the Gators, sophomore Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) made nine saves in his debut as a returnee and in his third career start in goal. Manhattanville's  Patryk Siwiec made eight saves for the Valients in earning the win.

Sage is back in action on September 7-8 at Alfred University in the Saxons' opening season tournament as Sage takes on Baruch on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
