Albany, NY— Joining the Sage Department of Athletics in June of 2019, Matthew Esposito (Troy, NY formerly of East Haven, CT/Xavier) brings with him a wealth of experience in Division III Men's Soccer experience having played his collegiate soccer at Eastern Connecticut State University before serving as an assistant coach with Utica College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Esposito joins the Sage ranks having served the past two seasons as an assistant with the Engineers at RPI and leading the team to a spot in the 2018 Liberty League Semifinals.

A 2013 graduate of ECSU with an undergraduate degree in history, Esposito was a four-year letterwinner with the soccer team and an active member of the college's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.). A two-year team captain for the Warriors, Esposito led the team and guided the squad to numerous post-season appearances, while also earned a spot on the 2011 Little East Conference First-Team and acclaim as the LEC Tournament MVP.
After graduating from ECSU, he remained with his alma mater and served as an assistant coach helping to lead the program to an impressive 23-10-5 record in two and half years with numerous players garnering acclaim along the way. Following his time at ECSU, he joined the staff at Utica College, where he assisted with all aspects of the program for the Pioneers as a member of the Empire 8. In addition, to his work with the soccer program, Esposito has continued his educational advancement as well and is pursuing his master's degree at Utica College.
In charge of recruiting and the organization of pre-season and in-season practices, Esposito gained valuable experience with administrative duties such as compliance, admission evaluations, academic monitoring, community service, fund raising, and social media, while also working with his student-athletes to focus on mental and physical preparation for competitions and academic preparedness while on the staff at ECSU, Utica and RPI. He has been extremely active on the RPI campus having trained as a facilitator with the One Love Escalation Workshop, while also volunteering countless hours to local charities such as the local Things of My Very Own, LLC.
Active with the Albany Alleycats, he is the head coach of the U-13-14 Boys' program, and has also served as the Head Coach for the U14 Girls associated with the SDA East program in Utica. Additionally, he has worked with the Northeast United Soccer programs in Connecticut and has also served as the Director of Operations for the CFC Azul in Hamden, Connecticut, a member of the USL/PDL in the summer of 2013.
He holds a USSF D License, as well as a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Level I Diploma and has also down 30 plus hours of PD with the United Soccer Coaches Association having attended the annual Champions Coaching Clinic for the past five years.

Esposito added, "It is an honor to be named the next head men's soccer coach at Sage!" He added, "I am excited to be a part of such a great institution and look forward to building upon the strong foundation already present within the program."
Esposito joins the Sage Department of Athletics this summer and will lead an impressive list of performers as the Gators open the 2019 season on August 30 travelling to Manhattanville College with the home opener slated for September 14 against Oneonta State.
