Men's soccer drops decision on the road to Oneonta State

Oneonta, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Oneonta State on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference match. Oneonta State posted the 2-0 win to improve to 9-3-4, while Sage falls to 4-8-1 after Tuesday's match.

Oneonta held a 1-0 lead at the intermission after the Red Dragons were paced by the play of senior midfielder Nicholas Plate (Miller Place, NY/Sachem North) as he converted the feed from junior midfielder Nick Dillmann (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) at 10:03.

Midway through the second half, Oneonta State's junior forward Witman Hernandez (Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) tallied his team-leading 11th goal of the season on a pass from Plate at 63:53. Plate now leads the Red Dragons with his seven assists this fall.

Sage's senior Ryan Fairweather (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) had a header with four minutes left in the match, but it went wide for the Gators. Senior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) also had a strong shot off the Oneonta keeper in the final minute of the contest, only to have the shots stopper.

Oneonta's senior keeper Nicholas Giordano (East Northport, NY/Commack) made five saves in the match earning his fourth shutout of the season and is now 6-2-4. Sage's senior goalie Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) made eight saves in the match and is now 3-6-1.

Chiaravalloti now has 184 career saves, which ranks 2nd all-time at Sage, while owning 1.14 career goals against average. which is also second best for the Sage men's soccer team.  

Sage returns to action on Saturday, October 20 hosting Alfred University at 3:30 p.m. at ACP Field in an Empire 8 match. Prior to the contest, Sage will honor their seniors in conjunction with Senior Day.
