Sage falls on the road to Cobleskill

Cobleskill, N.Y., The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team stepped out of conference play on Sundayafternoon to post an impressive 4-1 victory over the Gators of Sage College at the Soccer/Lax Complex. With the non-league victory the Fighting Tigers move to 6-7 overall on the year while the Gators are now 4-6-1 overall on the campaign.

After a scoreless first half the Fighting Tigers struck first as the senior forward Patrick McGovern, Congleton, England, Congleton High School, took a long lead pass form senior forward Emile Vwaza, Manhattan, N.Y., Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, and demonstrated why he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Region Offensive Player-of-the-Month for September by making an acrobatic move to beat Gator freshman goalie Kasper Westnes, Stavenger, Norway, Wang Athletic, at the 47th minute mark.

Emile Vwaza then added a goal of his own from 10-yards out in the 49th minute on a pass form freshman defender Mamadou Seck, Bronx, N.Y., Fredrick Douglas Academy, to make it 2-0 Cobleskill.

After the Gators cut the lead to 2-1 in the 59th minute on an impressive 20-yard blast of the dead run from senior forward River Seybolt, Selden, N.Y., Longwood High School, the Orange & Black countered in the 80th minute when sophomore midfielder Aboubacar Konate, Bronx, N.Y., John F. Kennedy High School, rebounded a free kick off the crossbar and blasted it home to make it 3-1 Fighting Tigers.

Cobleskill then closed the day's scoring in the 84th minute when Patrick McGovern made a series of moves that left the Gator defenders in the dust which led to a point blank goal and a 4-1 victory for the home team.

Defensively Cobleskill turned to freshman Garrett Maxwell, Enfield, Conn., Suffield High School, to man the goal and the rookie responded by making four saves to earn his first intercollegiate victory.

Seybolt leads the Gators this fall with his five goals and 12 points, elevating his career resume to 45 goals and 102 points.

The Gators return to action on Saturday, October 13 hosting Stevens in an Empire 8 contest at 1 p.m.
