Seybolt tallies 100th career point on game-winning PK

Utica, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Utica College on Saturday night for an Empire 8 road match at Utica College. The Gators posted a 2-1 win to improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Empire 8. Utica drops to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the league. Sage's senior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) provided the spark for the Gators as he recorded his 100th career point in the match and added his 16th career game-winning goal in the process.

Sage took a 1-0 lead as junior midfielder James Lagunas (Passaic, NJ/Passaic County Technical Institute) scored his first goal of the season on a feed from rookie Giddel Alvarado (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) at 48:44.

Four plus minutes later Utica tied the action as Marvin Tucker scored on a feed from Nicolas Diaz at 52:54.

The score did not stay tied for long as the Pioneers committed a foul in the box and Sage's Seybolt was awarded a penalty kick which he buried right down the center for his team-leading fourth goal of the year at the 54:10 mark. Seybolt, who is the program's all-time leading scorer, now boasts 44 goals, 12 assists, and 100 career points! He is now 8-8 lifetime at Sage on penalty kicks, also a Sage career mark, while also leading the Gators with his 16 game-winning goals.

Sage's senior goalie Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) made one save in the match and is now 3-4-1 on the season and the Gator defense came up big when the Pioneers had a number of strong shots in the final five minutes of the match.

Sage returns to action on Sunday, October 7 travelling to SUNY-Cobleskill for a 3 p.m. road contest with the Fighting Tigers.
