Seybolt adds 15th career game-winner to lead Gators past Houghton, 2-1

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Highlanders of Houghton College Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest. Sage's senior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) scored his 15th career game-winning goal to lift the Gators to the Empire 8 win on Saturday night. Sage is now 2-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league. Houghton drops to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

Houghton took the early lead as rookie Brice Bogna (Nairobi, Kenya) had a great played ball and planted it in the goal over the reach of Sage's keeper for the early Highlander lead.

Sophomore forward Jeaneste Pierre (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tied the match on his third goal of the year at the 40:26 mark sending the game to a 1-1 tie.

Seybolt broke the scoring deadlock with his shot off a break away from the far left side to back right corner at 59:44. The goal was his second of the season and gives him 95 career points. The program's all-time goal scoring leader with 42 goals, he also holds the point record and the mark for most career-game-winning goals at 15.

Senior goalie Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) collected the win for Sage after making three saves in the match. The win is his 14th career victory in goal, tying him for second all-time in goalie wins at Sage, while also putting him second with his 139th save.

Houghton's rookie keeper Bryson Robinson (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) took the loss with two goals allowed and six saves.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, September 25 hosting MCLA in a non-conference contest at ACP's Field at 7 p.m. Houghton is back in action on September 29 hosting Stevens in an Empire 8 contest at 1 p.m.
