Kevin Saar and Eric Saar Honored by Sage Athletic Department

Albany, NY—The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2017-2018 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2017-2018 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

Men's soccer player Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) was named the Male Dean Sharon Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. Saar, who was also selected to speak on behalf of all Sage Student-Athletes at the banquet, was also named to the Sage Athletic Honor Society for his efforts and is now a two-time honoree. A business administration major at Sage, Saar sports a 3.797 cumulative grade point average and will graduate from Sage on May 12.

Head Men's Soccer Coach Keith Simons commented on Kevin, "Kevin is the complete package. He is a great person, incredible student and a fantastic player. This program is lucky to be able to claim Kevin as one of its own. He truly represents what every coach hopes to find in their athletes."

Additionally Sage selected the Fan of the Year, which was bestowed to Eric Saar (Binghamton, NY), father of men's soccer player Kevin Saar. Over the course of his time as a Sage parent, Eric assisted with creating senior day prints, shooting pictures of athletic contests and was a devoted fan of both the men's soccer team, but also the women's soccer teams extending his services to assist with team photos and head shots for the teams.

Among the many awards Kevin garnered during his time at Sage, he was named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Scholar All-East Team.  He was also placed on the 2017 2017 Empire 8 All-Conference Men's Soccer Second Team. Saar, who was also honored with a selection to the Empire 8 Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team, wraps his outstanding career having helped Sage to four-straight post-season appearances in his time as a Gator. As a sophomore, he helped Sage to the 2015 Skyline Conference Championship and a spot in the team's first NCAA Tournament appearances. A year ago, Sage finished the year as the 2016 Skyline Tournament Runner-up after falling in overtime in the finals. Over the course of his career, Saar played in 71 games at Sage and ranks seventh highest in the category in the career record book.
