Gomez gives Sage a 2-1 Double-OT victory over Cardinals

Albany, NY- Sage's men's soccer team hosted St. John Fisher College on Saturday evening in an Empire 8 match that went to double overtime before Sage's senior midfielder Heriberto Gomez (Columbiaville, NY/Ichabod Crane) collected the game-winner in the 102nd minute. With the win, Sage is now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8, while St. John Fisher College drops to 5-3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8.

The Cardinals scored first when senior midfielder Justin Ferron (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) was awarded a penalty kick after a handball in the box and collected the score for his fourth goal of the season.

Sage tied the action at 57:10 also a penalty kick after a hard tackle in the box and Sage's junior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) tied the action with his team-leading 10th goal of the year.

After playing to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, the two teams needed a second overtime period to decide the result as senior midfielder Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) converted the indirect kick from the left side to a perfect feed for Gomez, who pushed the game-winner in from the left side to end the game. The goal was the first of the year for Gomez.

Seybolt leads the Gators with his 21 points on 11 goals and two assists this fall and continues his climb on the program's all-time scoring list as he is No. 2 in career points with 77 on 34 goals and nine assists. He is currently No. 2 all—time in career points with 77, just seven behind Gustavo Trinidad (2011-2014, 25 goals, 32 assists), while edging ever closer to being the Gators' all-time goal scorer as well. Scott Jarosz (2010-2013, 72 points) is the program's all-time goal scoring leader with 35 goals and Seybolt is one away from tying him.

Gator junior keeper Michael Chiaravalloti's (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) collected the win with three saves, while St. John Fisher College's junior Joe Catalfamo (Fairport, NY/Fairport) made four saves in the loss.

Next up for the Gators, they will travel to Bard College on October 4 for an 8 p.m. non-conference match. St. John Fisher College hosts Alfred State on October 4 in a 4 p.m. game.
