Pierre tallies first career goal to lift Gators past Clarkson

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Golden Knights of Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up.  Sage's rookie Jeaneste Pierre (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) collected the only goal of the match to tally the game winner. Sage improves to 2-2, while Clarkson falls to 3-2.

After playing through a scoreless first half, Pierre collected the first goal of his collegiate career on a series of Gator shots that sophomore keeper Ian Roeloffs (Warwick, NY/Warwick Central) made before the rookie forward pushed the ball into the back corner of the goal out of the reach of Clarkson's keeper at 63:08.

Despite a series some heavy pressure the Clarkson offense applied in the final three minutes of play with a pair of corner kicks and four shots on goal, Sage's defense held on for the first shutout of the year.

Gator junior keeper Michael Chiaravalloti's (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) earned the shutout with 12 saves. Clarkson's Roeloffs made four saves in suffering the loss.

Next up for the Gators, they will travel to Nazareth College on September 16 for the first Empire 8 match-up next Saturday at 3 p.m. Clarkson University is back in action in September 16 for a 7 p.m. match-up at Plattsburgh State.
