Gator men's soccer tops unbeaten Potsdam, 3-1 in home opener as Seybolt stars

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Bears of SUNY-Potsdam on Friday afternoon in the Gators' 2017 home opener. The Gators posted a 3-1 win to hand Potsdam their first loss of the season as Sage improves to 1-2. SUNY-Potsdam falls to 3-1.

Junior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) struck first connecting on his team-leading third goal of the year as he had a break-away at 24:06. Less than three minutes later, Seybolt fed the ball to senior forward Derlis Zayas (White Plains, NY/White Plains) for a 2-0 Gator lead at 27:00.

Leading 2-0 at the break, Seybolt added his second goal of the contest at 57:32 mark. Seybolt lead the lineup this fall with his nine points on four goals and an assist and continues his assault on the program's scoring marks. After Friday's action, he stands 3rd in points (64), second in goals (28), tied for sixth in assists (8), while Zayas is now seventh with his 13 career goals.

Potsdam mounted a late game push, firing off a series of shots before junior midfielder Michael Hunter-Wofford (Carmichael, CA) scored his first goal on the season on a feed from sophomore Theodore Bruschini (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) at 85:25 breaking junior keeper Michael Chiaravalloti's (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) shutout bid. Chiaravallotti finished with 11 saves. Potsdam's sophomore keeper Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) took the loss dropping to 3-1 after making one save in the action.

Next up for the Gators, they will host the Golden Knights of Clarkson University on Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m. at ACP's Athletic Complex.
