Sage Falls in Skyline Play to Maritime

ALBANY – Sage's River Seybolt (Seldon, NY/Longwood) scored the first goal of the game in the first half, but Maritime came back with two second half goals to beat the Gators 2-1 in Skyline Conference play late Friday night.

After three corners and two shots from Sage, Seybolt found the back in the 21st minute of the net after dribbling through two defenders and beating the keeper one-on-one.

The Gators kept the pressure up on offense, outshooting Maritime (6-7, 2-4 Skyline) 3-1 going into the half.

In the 48th minute, Maritime's Joe Merendino took a long throw-in from the right side of the Privateer offensive third. Merendino's throw found Justin Forrest for a flick-on that went to Parker Gallt for a bicycle kick goal.

With the game tied 1-1, Sage (3-6-3-, 1-4-1 Skyline) responded with three straight shots from Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) and Seybolt. In the 57th minute, a Saar corner was cleared by Maritime defender Chris O'Connor to Harry Colucci up front. After a misplay by Sage, Colucci hit an open net from 18 yards out to put the Privateers up 2-1.

Over the next 33 minutes, Sage outshot Maritime 8-1 with nine corners, but it wasn't enough.

Maritime's Michael Rodriguez (5-5) was credited with the win on three saves while Sage's Caelan Kohut (2-6-3) picked up the loss with one save. Seybolt led the game with five shots followed by Paul Reynoso (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) with four.

Sage outshot Maritime 17-4, but only had a one shot advantage with shots-on-goal (4-3). The Gators also recorded 15 corners to Maritime's four.

Mount Saint Mary currently tops the Skyline table with the only undefeated conference record (6-0).

Sage travels to Yeshiva Sunday night for their next Skyline competition. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. at Votee Park in Teaneck, N.J.
