Gators Defeat Southern Vermont 4-0

ALBANY – Sophomore River Seybolt (Seldon, NY/Longwood) and junior Derlis Zayas (White Plains, NY/White Plains) each scored a pair of goals Monday night in Sage's 4-0 win over Southern Vermont.

After only 18 seconds of play, Zayas dribbled down the right side of the field and took a shot from 14 yards out to put Sage (3-5-3, 1-3-1 Skyline) up 1-0. The Gators took 12 unanswered shots from Seybolt, Derrick Peprah (Bronx, NY/Bronx Leadership Academy), Alberto Cannistraci (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central), Nathan Ficht (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill), Heriberto Gomez (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) and Paul Reynoso (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) before Seybolt found the back of the net in the 38th minute.

A little over six minutes into the second half, Seybolt was fouled in the Southern Vermont (3-5-2, 0-0-2 Skyline) penalty box on a James Lagunas (Passaic, NJ/Passaic County Technical) corner kick. Seybolt connected on the penalty kick to the top left corner.

After the Gators committed a foul outside of their own penalty box, Jake Figueiredo took the Mountaineers first shot that was blocked by the Sage wall. Southern Vermont's Nikolas Joseph hit a second shot on the rebound that went over the net.

In the 80th minute, Evans Frimpong (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) hit a long ball down the left side of the field to Zayas. The Mountaineer defense misplayed the ball, and Zayas found the back of the open net from ten yards out.

Sage's Mike Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) (1-0-0) was credited with his first win of his collegiate career while Southern Vermont's Chris Jimenez (4-5-2) picked up the loss on a ten save effort. The Gators outshot Southern Vermont 28-3 with Seybolt shooting a game-high nine shots. Sage posted their third clean sheet of the year with the help of the defensive line of Fitch, Joe Diano (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) and Louis Cox (Albany, NY/Colonie Central).

Seybolt currently leads Sage with six goals and 14 points on the year while Zayas ranks second in goals (four) and points (nine). The sophomore currently sits in fifth for career points (37), fifth for goals (15) and eighth for assists (seven). Seybolt ranks second in the Skyline in shot (50), shots/game (4.55) and goals (six).
