Seybolt leads Sage with 5 points in Romp of Purchase, 6-0

Purchase, NY---The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to Purchase College on Wednesday night for a Skyline Conference contest.  The Gators collected an impressive 6-0 win to improve o 2-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the Skyline, while the Panthers fall to 0-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the league. 

Sophomore forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) led the team with his five points in the contest after scoring two goals and adding an assist. Seybolt leads the team in scoring this fall with 10 points on four goals and two assists. By night's end, Sage had erupted for a season-best six goals.

Sage jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as senior midfielder Lai Le (Walnut, CA/Walnut) headed the ball in off a feed from sophomore midfielder James Fitzpatrick (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) for the first goal of the year for Le.

Seybolt added a goal at the 24:58 mark on a pass from sophomore Sarpong Adjei (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) put the Gators up 2-0, having peppered Purchase's goalie, Thomas Ogrodnik with 13 shots just 25 minutes into the match.

Seybolt struck again at 51:51 on a penalty kick, converting his third attempt of the season and giving him a team-leading four goals this year.  The Gators poured in their team's fourth score of the night as junior Derlis Zayas (White Plains, NY/White Plains) on a pass from junior midfielder Paul Reynoso (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) at 65:56. Minutes later, Reynoso scored on a feed from Seybolt at 66:50.

Sage capitalized on a defensive error as they scored on an own goal at 70:27 to put the Gators up 6-0. For the night, the Gators poured on 35 shots, while holding the Panthers to just eight shots.

Seybolt stands No. 6 all-time on the Sage career point list with his 33 points (13g, 7a), while his 13 career goals is also No. 6.

Sage's junior goalie Caelen Kohut (Ancram, NY/Hudson) and rookie keeper Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) shared in the shutout win, the second of the season for the Gators. Kohut worked 75 minutes making just one save and improves to 2-4-3 in net.  For Purchase, Ogrodnik made 14 saves with five goals allowed in 66:50.

Sage is back in action on October 1 hosting St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference contest at 5 p.m. at Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex in conjunction with Sage's Gator Day.
