Sage Falls in First Skyline Loss 1-0

NEWBURGH, NY – The Gators outshot first place Mt. St. Mary on the road 12-7 on the road, but Sage fell 1-0 Tuesday night against the Knights.

Sage (1-3-3, 0-1-1 Skyline) got off to a quick start when sophomore River Seybolt (Seldon, NY/Longwood) took a shot less than a minute and a half into the game, but Tyler Biscone saved the shot for the Knights. In the 13th minute, Mt. St. Mary's (3-5, 2-0 Skyline) Mike Zanfardino ripped a shot, but hit the crossbar.

The Gators outshot Mt. St. Mary 2-1 over the next 16 minutes until the Knights' Joey Dolan took a pass from Nick Ciani and hit a shot from 30 yards out off the Gator post and into the net in the 29th minute.

Paul Reynoso (Oswego, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and Ryan Fairweather (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) each responded with shots for the Gators in the 35th and 36th minutes, but neither could tie up the game before the half.

Starting the second half, Mt. St. Mary took an early shot, but Sage's Caelan Kohut (Ancram, NY/Hudson) saved the Knight attempt. Sage controlled most of the second half with six combined shots from Liam Hayes (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia), Sarpong Adjei (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton), Kevin Saar (Binghamton, NY/Windsor Central) and Alex Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill), but it wouldn't be enough in the 1-0 loss.

Kohut (1-3-3) picked up the loss with three saves while Biscone (3-5) was credited with the win on a five save effort.

Sage was led offensively by Adjei (three shots), Seybolt (two shots) and Fairweather (two shots) while Mt. St. Mary was led by Dolan (one goal), Ciani (one assist) and Zanfardino (three shots).

The Gators come back home on Sat. Sept., 24 for their third Skyline match against first place Farmingdale State (3-4, 2-0 Skyline) at the ACP Athletic Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
