Sage’s Sean Lanza Named Gator of the Year in Men’s Soccer

ALBANY The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2015-2016 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, and the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

The Sage Colleges' men's soccer competitor, senior Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) was named the Gator of the Year.

Head coach Keith Simons said of Lanza, "Sean Lanza is everything we want our Sage Men's Soccer players to represent. He has great character, hard work, and quality on the field."

Lanza, the 2015 Skyline Championship Most Outstanding Player, was the rock of Sage's midfield. The senior played in all 20 games. Over the course of three seasons at Sage, Lanza totaled six assists and four goals. The captain was named to the Skyline Conference First-Team and led Sage to its first Skyline Championship and NCAA berth. Lanza was named to the 2016 Skyline Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, and he was a CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee.

A biology and physical therapy major, Lanza has been a Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete, a Sage Scholar-Athlete and Sage Dean's List honoree. Lanza is set to join the Sage men's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach in the fall.
