Gators play Union to scoreless overtime tie

Gators Battle Union to Double Overtime

SCHENECTADY, NY – After 120 minutes of play, the Gators drew a 0-0 tie against Union College in their first game of the Union College Classic.

Union was on the offensive much of the first half until Sage's River Seybolt broke through Union's defense to get a shot off in the 28th minute, but it would cruise wide.

Goalie TJ Zehner recorded three saves and kept the Dutchmen off the board.

After a scoreless first half, Sage turned up the offense early with two corner kicks in the second half. Seybolt almost connected off a rebounded shot from Alex Lanza, but the ball missed wide.

Union's best chance of the half was in the 61st minute when Samuel Eddy hit a shot wide off a rebounded shot by Carl Faber hit the Gator post.

Even though Sage outshot Union 7-5 in the second, both teams remained scoreless and forced overtime.

The first offensive strike of overtime came from Sage's Sean Lanza in the 96th minute, but it missed wide.

Union's Andrew Fontaine responded with a shot of his own less than a minute later, but he was denied by the post to keep the score 0-0 going into the second overtime.

Sage's Seybolt and Derlis Zayas combined for three shots in the first eight minutes of the second overtime, but U nion goalie John Weitzman came up with two big saves and the third shot was just high.

With six seconds left in overtime, Fontaine tried to seal the victory for Union, but was denied by Zehner on his sixed save of the contest.

Sage is set to play RPI at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow in their last game of the Union College Classic.
