Trinidad named Skyline Player of the Year; Mauro and Trinidad earn first team honors

New York, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team member junior midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) was named the 2013 Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Year after his record-setting season in voting conducted among the Conference's ten head coaches.

Trinidad has scored a league-high seven game winning goals and has compiled 25 points on nine goals and seven assists in 17 contests played this fall. He has amassed a team-high 39 shots as the Gators won the Skyline Conference regular season title with a 7-0-2 record.

The Gators' scoring leader this fall, he continues to add to a pair of Sage career scoring marks as well. He is the program's career game-winning leader as he has 10 on his career. He is also the program's career assist mark as well with 21. He ranks second all-time with his 61 career points (20g, 21a). 

Earlier this season, he was named the Skyline Conference and the ECAC Metro Player of the Week in early October after he had a banner week. In one contest, he tied a mark he already owns for connecting for seven points in the Gators' 6-0 win over Maritime College (Oct. 12, 2013). Trinidad has hit seven points in a contest twice now after first achieving the feat as a rookie in a 7-1 win over SUNY-Old Westbury on October 29, 2011.

Joining Trinidad on the first team is senior defender, Nick Mauro (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central). An anchor on the Gators' defense, Mauro has also found the net this fall as well with a goal and two assists. A team co-captain this fall, he was a Skyline Conference All-Star Second Team honoree as a sophomore in 2011. He has helped the Gators to four consecutive Skyline Conference Tournament appearances during his career and has played in 64 games during his career, while helping Sage rank nationally during that time NCAA Division III statistics in both offensive and defensive categories during that same time frame.

Top seeded Sage (10-4-3) returns to action on November 6 hosting No. 5 seeded Farmingdale State College in the Skyline Conference Semifinals. The match will start at 1 p.m. at Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex. Wednesday's semifinal winner advances to the 2013 Skyline Conference Championship which will take place at the Fall Festival on the campus of Mt. St. Mary College (Newburgh, NY). The championship match is set for 3:30 p.m. on November 9 and the champion will garner the league's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship.
