Sage delivers on Senior Day with key win over NYU-Poly

The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Fighting Blue Jays of NYU-Poly in a Skyline Conference match held at the Albany Pharmacy's Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game Sage honored their six seniors in conjunction with Senior Day. The six seniors are the program's first four-year letterwinners in the programs history and they delivered a 3-1 win to cap the day's festivities.

Sage improves to 9-3-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the Skyline, while NYU-Poly falls to 0-12-1 overall and 0-7 in the league. With Saturday's victory, the Gator seniors are 41-25-5 overall and have garnered the top seed in the upcoming 2013 Skyline Conference men's soccer tournament, a program first for the Gators.

After a scoreless first half of play, NYU-Poly took a 1-0 lead as junior forward Andres Torres (Weston, FL) converted the feed from junior defender Mathew Burke (Deer Park, NY) at the 50:52 mark.

Sage's freshman Jason Vargas (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) tied the action with his goal at 55:29, before junior defender Tyler Denton (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) scored his first goal of the season at the 77:01 mark and provided his second career game-winning goal as well.

Senior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) tallied the final goal of the action at the 87:19 mark and elevated his active career goal scoring record to 35 goals with 71 career points, another Sage soccer high-water mark.

In goal for the Gators, senior Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) made four saves in the action to elevate his active career record to 114 saves with another record of 13 wins in goal in 29 games played in goal. NYU-Poly's sophomore goalie Paul Lima (Weston, FL) recorded 10 saves in the setback.

Sage returns to action on October 23 travelling to SUNY-Cobleskill for a 3:30 p.m. contest with the Fighting Tigers.
