Gators swamp Southern Vermont, 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon

Bennington, VT – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to nearby Southern Vermont College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match. The Gators posted the 7-0 win and improves to 2-2-1, while SVC falls to 0-5.

Freshman forward Jason Vargas (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) put the Gators on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season minutes into the action as he scored at the 2:06 mark on a pass from junior midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck). Trinidad, who already holds Sage's career assist mark now has 15 on his career after connecting for a single-season seven a year ago.

Junior midfielder Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) gave the Gators at 2-0 lead with his first goal of the season at 12:48. Adding to the action in the first half was freshman Christian Pinti (Slate Hills, NY/Minisink Valley) on a feed from sophomore Andrew Bartoah (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) at 20:47.

Sage opened the second half with a goal from sophomore defender Tyler Sivulich (Rhinebeck, NY/Red Hook) at 51:39, before Trinidad scored his second goal of the match on a feed from Vargas at 69:44. Sophomore Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) recorded his first goal of the season as Sage led 6-0 at the 82:50 mark.

Notching the final goal of the afternoon was senior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) as he scored at the 89:01 mark. Sage's all-time career scoring leader, he now has two goals this season with 33 on his career and 67 points.            

Sage's senior keeper Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) recorded just one save in earning his second shutout win of the season and is now 2-2-1 in net this fall.

Sage returns to action on September 17 hosting Union College in an 8:15 p.m. non-conference match that will take place at The College of Saint Rose's Plumeri Complex.
