Gators drop heartbreaker at SVC, 3-2

Bennington, VT---Sage's men's soccer team travelled to Southern Vermont College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match. The Mountaineers earned the 3-2 win and improve to 3-2, while the Gators fall to 4-2-1.

SVC scored first at Pierre Massena score the first of his two goals on the day at 28:11. Freshman defender Tyler Denton (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) tied the action at 16:57 on a feed from sophomore midfielder Evan Southworth (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy),  for his first collegiate goal.

Massena broke the tie at early into the second half at 40:32.  Less than three minutes later Erik Argueta gave the Mountaineers a 3-1 lead with goal at 37:10. Gator sophomore midfielder Wesley Finch (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) converted a penalty kick attempt at 2:33 left for his team-leading fifth goal of the season, but it was not enough as Sage fell on the road.

SVC's Connor Anniello recorded eight saves in earning the win, while sophomore Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) suffered the loss with five saves.

Sage will take to the pitch again on Saturday, September 17 hosting Wells College at 3:30 p.m. in a home non-conference match at the Bethlehem SoccerPlex (Glenmont, NY).
