Record day for Martin as Gators roll past St. Joe's (LI), 17-4

Patchogue, NY – Russell Sage College's men's lacrosse team was in action on Saturday afternoon facing the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's University-Long Island. RSC posted the 17-4 victory to record the team's second straight win in a row as well. RSC is now 3-5 on the season, while St. Joseph's (LI) drops to 0-1.

Graduate performer Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) had a banner afternoon as he broke the program's single-game goal scoring record after collecting nine goals with a pair of assists for 11 points. His nine goals surpassed the previous mark of seven set by David Baraniuk and Eric Fairhurst in 2019. His 11 points ranks second to Baraniuk's 12 points vs. Wells on March 19, 2019.

The Gators came out strong and racked up eight unanswered goals to take an 8-0 lead at the half. Martin connected for seven first half points including five goals. He reeled off four straight goals to wrap the first quarter and start the second with the Gators in command.

The program's all-time leading scorer, Martin checks in with 118 points on 77 goals with 41 assists.

Senior attacker Anthony Abreu (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) finished the day with seven points on two goals and five assists. His five assists is tied for third most in a single game. He now has 27 points this spring and is second in points, but tied with Martin for most goals with 19.

Graduate performer Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) added one goal and one assist with seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. He continues to add to several Sage program records in both categories as well with 193 ground balls and 53 caused turnovers and now has 74 career points which ranks fourth.

Freshman attackman Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) added four points on two goals with two assist, while junior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) racked up four points on a goal with three assists. Fellow junior, Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) was also part of the scoring action with two goals. Sophomore defenseman Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) collected eight ground balls, while forcing six turnovers.

RSC's rookie goalie Andrew Collora (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) made the start and earned the win with five saves and only four goals allowed. He is now 3-5 in net.

As a team, the Gators forced 20 turnovers, a single-game team record. They also converted 28 of 33 clear attempts and made 48 shots on the day which stands in the Top 10 in single game marks.

The Gators wrap a busy weekend as they will take on Farmingdale State at Noon on Sunday, March 19.
