Gators Drop E8 Opener

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College kicked off Empire 8 Conference play by falling 19-9 to visiting Hartwick tonight.

Senior attackman Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) (above) topped the Gators with five points on three goals and two assists. Attackman Hunter Brunelle (Skaneateles, NY/Jordan-Elbridge), a grad student, registered two goals and two assists, while senior goalie Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) stopped 19 Hartwick shots.

RSC (5-5/0-1 E8) began the night strong, netting four goals in the opening 5:17. The visitors answered with five-consecutive goals to head into the break up 8-5. Overall, the Hartwick run was 14-1 across 28:19.

The Hawks (4-2/1-0 E8) had four players record three or more points in the road victory. Junior midfielder Kainen Francis-Thompson led Hartwick with three goals and two assists, while junior goalie Kyle McKee made 11 saves to earn the win.

RSC continues E8 play on Wednesday at 4:00 pm vs. Utica.


Notes: Martin totaled 13 points, eight goals and five assists in the 1-1 week...Capitelli totaled 25 saves across 108:51.
