Brunelle racks up six points as RSC Beats Manhattanville, 14-7

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College men's lacrosse team hosted the Valiants of Manhattanville College on Tuesday night and posted a 14-7 win paced by the attackmen Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) and Hunter Brunelle (Skaneateles, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) as the duo added four goals apiece. RSC, winners of three of their last four games, now stands at 3-3, while Manhattanville drops to 1-3.

RSC used a 7-1 run across 16:34 to go into the locker room up 7-3. The Gators brought it with a 10-2 run late in the third quarter to take control of the action.

Brunnelle, a graduate student, finished with six points on four goals with two assists and added five ground balls with four caused turnovers. Martin finished with four goals, including three in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Hanna (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) added two goals with an assist, while sophomore midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) added a goal with an assist.

Sophomore midfielder Dean Sampson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) led the Gators with eight ground balls and won 16 of 23 faceoff attempts in the action.

Senior goalie Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) earned the win in goal to move to 3-3 after making 14 saves and allowing only seven goals in the contest. Capitelli, the Gators' all-time saves leader now has 272 with seven career victories.

Manhattanville got three goals from sophomore Sean Larkin (White Plains, NY/White Plains), while senior attackman Nick Cornelia (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) had three points on two goals with an assist.   

For the Valiants, graduate performer Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Portledge) made eight saves in goal with 13 goals allowed. Senior Cody Johnston (Syosset, NY/Syosset) worked the final three plus minutes with a pair of saves and a goal allowed.

The Gators have a short turnaround, taking the field again tomorrow at 4:00 pm vs. Wells.

Notes: Hunter Brunelle has taken over the Gator scoring race with his 19 points on 8 goals with 11 assists.  Bailey Martin is tied for No. 2 on the career point list as he has 51 points on 36 goals with 15 assists. His 36 goals also stands No. 2 on the career goal list, while senior Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) continues to add to his active career record for most ground balls with 140.
