Gators explode for record 23 goals in home opening day win over Mitchell

Albany, NY —The Gators of Sage hosted the Mariners of Mitchell College in their 2020 home opener. Sage posted a 23-8 win to break the school record for most goals in a game, which stood at 18. Sage is now 1-3 overall and Mitchell falls to 1-3 as well.

Sage led 15-2 at the half and had 10 different players score in the contest led by the play of sophomore attacker Robert Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) who added six goals and an assist. Rookie attackman Anthony Abreu (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) added four goals with four assists as well, while sophomore Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central) added four goals.

Rookie midfielder Sean McGirr (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) won 6-of-8 faceoffs and had a caused turnover as well goal and assist in the contest.  

Sage's s sophomore goalie Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) made nine saves in the contest and earned his first victory in net for the season.

Robert Martin and Abreu lead the team this season with their 14 points as Martin has 11 goals with three assists, while Abreu has nine goals and five assists. Martin continues to add to his active marks for most points with 67, while also leading the Gators with 37 assists.

Sage returns to action on March 4 travelling to New England College for a non-conference road game at 4 p.m.
