Banton scores four in men's lacrosse loss at Kean

Union, NJ— Kyle Ryder scored five goals with two assists to lead the Kean College men's lacrosse team to a 28-8 non-league win over The Sage Colleges at Alumni Stadium. The Cougars are now 8-4 on the season while the Gators are 8-6 in the program's first season.

Jake Frankovits, Jack Bushey and Kevin Dolan scored three goals each to lead Kean. Michael Yukas made three saves in the net as one of two goalkeepers to see action on the night. The Cougars had 42 shots on net from the 55 shots for the game and had a 57-23 ground ball advantage. Kean was a perfect 12 for 12 in clear attempts and the Gators were 15 for 20 on clears while Kean won 26 of the 40 faceoffs.

Kean had a 9-3 lead after the first and scored nine more goals in the second period. Sage kept the Cougars to two goals in the final period.

Sophomore midfielder Sherrod Banton (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) led the Gators with a season high four goals and an assist. All four of his shots were on net and in the net. Freshman attack Matt Fisher (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) had two goals to give him 31 in his rookie year. Freshman midfielder Robert Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and freshman midfielder Rich Everoski (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) each scored a goal and the Gators got assists from Banton, freshman attack Eric Fairhurst (Wooster, OH/Wooster) and junior attack Austin Seymour (Albany, NY/Maple Hill).

Freshmen Brandon Maresca (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) made eight saves for the Gators and freshman Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) made six stops.

Sage had a two-game winning streak snapped and had won three of the last four entering this contest.

Sage plays Saturday, April 20 at Nazareth College in a 1 p.m. Empire 8 game. It is the last road game of the regular season. Kean is at Keystone College tomorrow night, April 17 at 7:00 p.m.
