Sage men's golf team opened championship play standing in third through first round

Hershey, PA—Russell Sage College's men's golf team opened play at the 2022 Empire 8 Spring men's golf championship held at Hershey Country Club East. A par 70 course with a distance of 6,428 yards, the Gators stand in third place after the first day, despite extremely windy conditions.

St. John Fisher College is in the club house with a day one score of 322, just one stroke ahead of Oswego State that carded a 323. The Gators shot a 351 on the first day and will wrap play in the championship on Saturday.

RSC's senior Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Trinity Christian School) shot an 81 and is tied for fifth place.  Graduate player Blake Pritchard (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) is tied for 13th after he posted an 86.

RSC's sophomore Austin Carpenter (Peru, NY/Peru) stands in 23rd place with a 91, while rookie Shane Kammerman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) carded a 93 and is tied for 25th place.
