Pritchard Named Gator of the Year in Men's Golf

Albany, NY—The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2017-2018 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2017-2018 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, as well as the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

Sage also awarded the Gator of the Year to members of the varsity teams, often awarded to the team's most valuable player. Named the Gator of the Year in men's golf this year was rookie Blake Pritchard (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy). Over the course of the 2017-2018 season, Pritchard was the low scorer at every single meet this year.

Head men's golf coach Kevin Cain noted of Blake, "I am very pleased with the way Blake handled the transition from high school to college golf this year." Cain added, "He showed a lot of potential this year, and I am looking forward to seeing him continue to improve over the next three years."

In the fall, Sage competed at the Empire 8 Fall Championship at Kanon Valley Golf Club in Oneida, NY and Pritchard finished tied for 29th after posting a combined score of 167 (89-78). In the spring at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA, Pritchard carded a 182 (84-94) and was tied for 16th overall. On the year, he finished tied for 23rd overall with his efforts.

Along the way, he finished the Green Mountain College Invitational tied for second after scoring an 85 for the tournament. At the Elms College Trailblazer Fall Invitational, he posted and opening day round of 77 and finished tied for 40th overall with a combined score of 162 after he carded an 85 on the final day.
