Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges’ department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams with the awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player.  In men’s golf, senior DJ Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) was selected as the Gator of the Year.

A team captain for the team during the fall campaign, Ioele was also selected as the 2015 Skyline Conference Sportsmanship Award for his performance. With a new tournament format for the Skyline Conference Men’s Golf Tournament, Ioele was the team’s lone qualifier for the league’s championship. Among his many highlights last fall, he carded a round of 78 to finish as the medalist and lead the Gators on the day at the Sage Fall Invitational.

A four-year letterwinner in golf at Sage, he had a number of strong performances throughout his career and helped the team to a number of top finishes including a third place showing at the 2013 Skyline Conference Team Championship.
